A BROKEN HABIT
By Robert Kaplan

Do you want to use, do you want to abstain?
Is the conflict between the two just pain?
How can anything that feels so good
Turn into the opposite?

Freedom becomes addicted
Creative becomes depressed
Loving becomes lonely

Another casualty of a broken habit
Broken from all the bad times instead of the cool
You do what you crave for, ready to die for
The outcome plays you like a fool

Do you want to use, do you want to abstain?
Is the conflict between the two just pain?
Art that feels bad is no art at all
That's meaningless, imposed and uptight

A good habit is not something to tear you apart
Not something to break or to fight
Good habits are skills honed from proper techniques
That get better, never finished each day

You start and you stop it, anytime that you like
An adventure finding it's way, purpose guiding desire
Is finally an art, not something your forced to
Suffer/slave do for reasons there at the start

So carry that dream into new truth
Mending and healing the soul
Catch the next tune, and sing it for real
Keep your habit the habit made whole

Do you want to use, do you want to abstain?
Is the conflict between the two just pain?

Do you want to use, do you want to abstain?
Is the conflict between the two just pain?
