BACK ALLEYS
By Robert Kaplan

Roamin' Back Alleys down in old Mexico
Hiddin' out so no one could see me
Had no place left to stay, gave my car away
Had no money to face another day

Back Alleys, Back Alleys, once again

I remember when
I just got out of jail, someone lent me my bail
The style down there was funky and stinky
The cops circled round in their old Volkswagen
But I still had that ring left on my pinky

Back Alleys, Back Alleys, once again

Leavin' town in a hurry was my specialty
Especially when things turned bad
Which was often enough. I hopped a passing bus
A bus to nowhere to try and feel glad

Back Alleys, Back Alleys, once again
